Malaysia 2-1 Chinese Taipei |Result Asian First Round Qualifiers World Cup 2014

Kuala Lumpur: A 77th minute Chen Po Liang goal has set up a tougher than anticipated second leg for Malaysia after the reigning ASEAN champions and SEA Games gold medalists recorded a narrow 2-1 win over Chinese Taipei on Wednesday in their 2014 FIFA World Cup first round qualifier.

Malaysian football has been on the rise in recent years and with a potential second round meeting with archrivals Singapore in the offing, K. Rajagopbal’s charges were expected to make the most of their home advantage in the first leg.

However, a 28th minute Safiq Rahim strike and a Mohd Aidil Radzak effort ten minutes into the second period was all the Tigers could muster at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium meaning Chen’s away goal could prove telling when the action shifts to the Taipei Municipal Stadium on Sunday.
